My Top Tips for Achieving Defined Curls
Getting really defined curls can feel like a challenge — but it usually comes down to a few key habits.
Moisture. Hydration isn't just about products — it starts with water. Make sure your hair is soaking wet before you apply anything. If your hair isn't properly wet first, products will tend to sit on top rather than working into the hair.
Products. Find products suited to your hair type, ideally ones that support hydration, volume and hold all at once. One of my favourites is Curl Jar's "Style + Treat Curl Activator," which covers all three in a single product.
Application. Finger-comb or brush product evenly through soaking wet hair. A bonus tip: section your hair into rows from the bottom to the top while you work the product in — this helps make sure everything is distributed evenly from root to tip.
Drying. Once your products are in, leave your hair alone until it's completely dry. When it is, you can scrunch out the cast to reveal your curls. Diffusing tends to give the best results.
